How to make the Chicken Tikka Masala sauce

All of this curry is made from scratch including the sauce. It’s a great beginner recipe if you’re unsure how to cook everything from scratch.

The spices are made up of Paprika, Cumin, Coriander, Chilli, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Cloves and Cardamom.

The sauce which is for the marinated chicken is made up of onions, garlic and ginger.

Chicken Tikka Masala Shopping List

Chicken breasts, lemon, tinned tomatoes and spices

This comes in at under £1 a head for four people. It can be a little spicy so you can tone it down with some extra tomato puree.

This is an easy recipe for the whole family to cook together. It’s delicious and only takes about ten minutes to prep and about thirty to forty minutes to cook.

4 chicken breasts £1.40

2 onion 16p

2 garlic cloves 6p

1 small piece of ginger 15p

200ml tinned tomatoes 28p

100ml single cream 60p

1 tsp lemon juice 5p

4 tbsp low cal spray 20p

1 tsp salt 3p

180g Rice 24p

Total: £3.17 (Correct at time of publishing)

Chicken Tikka Masala Instructions

Onions, garlic and ginger

Start by peeling and chopping the onion, garlic and ginger. You can whizz them in a blender if you’d prefer.

Marinated chicken

Chop the chicken into bite-size pieces. You can use fresh or frozen chicken but make sure that it’s been defrosted first.

Garlic with the marinated chicken

Add all the ingredients together and leave for about 30 minutes.

Baked chicken

Put the chicken on a baking tray grill for about 5 minutes in till the edges are a bit charred.

Onions and garlic

Fry the onion and add the rest of the ginger and garlic.

Add the tomatoes with any spices you may want.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 2 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 200ml tinned tomatoes
  • 100ml single cream
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp low cal spray
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 180g Rice
