Vegan Grocery List on a Budget

If you’re new to vegan cooking as a family, then here are a few tips to help you get started on a budget:

  1. Check the labels on everything! This includes stock cubes, sauces, spreads and breads. Red markers are words like whey, casein and lactose, which all come from milk. Don’t rely on the bolded words.
  2. Watch out for wines and beers as some non-vegan varieties may have been processed with animal products or even contain dairy.
  3. Most breads and pastries contain butter and some milk. Always ask or check the label if you’re unsure or make your own to cover your basis.
  4. If the kids have a sweet tooth, then look for agar-agar or vege-gel which are both made from seaweed.
  5. If you’re worried about using dairy alternatives, then have a look for silken, soft tofu or fortified soya milk as they contain added vitamins.
