With the cost of living increasing more and more, now could be a good time to cut back on your expenses. This may also mean that, at your child’s next birthday, you need to think of cheaper options to celebrate the occasion. While they may want a bespoke party at their favourite play centre or do an activity, it may not be feasible in the current climate. It is possible to host a fun birthday party for them at home, which can significantly reduce the amount you need to spend.

Evening events

Some older children may enjoy events that go on later in the day. These could even lead to some of their friends sleeping over in your home. If your child’s birthday is during the summer months, or even close to bonfire night, you may want to think about how they could enjoy the occasion outside in your garden. Looking for fireworks for sale can allow you to give them an exquisite party, and entertainment that all can enjoy. These can range from sparklers and quiet fireworks for younger or more sensitive children, right up to show stopping fireworks that could illuminate the night sky. This could be a great surprise to end the party, or even keep the excitement going.

Recreate events

There may be certain things that your child would have liked to do for their party, that you don’t currently have the money to achieve. Yet you may be able to recreate a similar experience at home. One good example of this can be a cinema party. While you might not have access to the latest blockbusters being shown on the big screen, you could offer a choice of movies that your child, and their guests, are likely to enjoy and provide snacks akin to those found at an actual cinema. Younger children may be particularly enthralled if you also create tickets and seating plans as well, to really bring the experience to life. When using movies, it can be important to consider the age ratings of each film, as well as the ages of attendees, so that you can pick something appropriate.

Sleepover ground rules

When your child expresses an interest to have friends stay overnight, you may be hesitant to agree. However, you might want to think about making a compromise with your child. Rather than all of their friends staying over, you could ask them to choose one or two. When doing so, you might want to set specific ground rules. While it is your child’s party, that doesn’t mean they can do what they like or disrespect your home. It can be a good idea to make it very clear that certain rules, such as lights out at a specific time, need to be followed, otherwise guests may be sent home.

A birthday party based at home can mean more work for you, but it could certainly lower those costs. You may want to discuss ideas with your child to help find something they will love, and is also feasible to accomplish.
