An Honest Review of Cube Packer’s Compression Packing Cubes

Sharing is caring!

Anyone who knows me well, will agree that I’m not a naturally efficient packer! No matter how carefully I plan outfits, I usually end up rearranging my suitcase several times and still sitting on it to get it closed. So when I had both a weekend city break and a longer business trip coming up, I decided it was finally time to test whether compression packing cubes were actually worth the hype.

I tried the packing cubes from Cube Packer, a UK-based travel brand known for practical, thoughtfully designed packing solutions. My sister raves about her packing cubes, but I wanted to see whether they genuinely made a difference in real travel situations. After using them on two different trips, here’s what I found…

First Test: A Carry-On Weekend

My first test was a three-night city break with carry-on only. I packed two pairs of jeans, three tops, a jumper, pyjamas, underwear, socks and a gym set – normally enough to push a cabin suitcase to its limits.

Instead of stacking everything loosely, I separated items into the four packing cubes, by category. Heavier pieces went together, lighter tops in another cube, and smaller essentials in their own. Once everything was zipped and compressed, the difference was noticeable. It didn’t magically shrink my clothes by half, but it reduced bulk enough that my suitcase closed easily and felt more structured.

What stood out most wasn’t just the extra space – it was the organisation. I also love the fact that these packing cubes have the option to be expanded – via an additional zip.

When I arrived, I didn’t have to unpack everything to find one item. I simply removed the cube I needed. That small shift made the whole process feel calmer and more efficient.

Second Test: A Family Break

The real test came during a week-long family holiday. Packing for myself is one thing. Packing for children – with outfit changes, “just in case” extras, swimwear, and the inevitable spare pyjamas – is another level entirely. Normally, everything gets squeezed in wherever it fits, and by day two the suitcase looks like it’s been ransacked.

This time, I used the cubes to divide clothing by category. One cube for my outfits, one for swimwear, one for nightwear and loungewear, and another for the “spares” that mums always pack. Instead of digging through layers to find one item for the day, I could lift out exactly what I needed.

It made mornings noticeably smoother. When you’re trying to get everyone dressed and out the door, not having to search through a messy suitcase removes one small but meaningful layer of stress. Even towards the end of the trip, everything still had its place rather than being bundled into a chaotic pile.

It might seem like a small detail, but when you’re travelling as a family, anything that keeps things organised and easy makes the whole experience feel calmer.

Quality and Practicality

The cubes themselves – which come in an amazing array of colours – feel durable without being heavy. The material is sturdy yet flexible, and the zips feel reliable – which matters with compression systems. They hold their shape well inside the suitcase and don’t bulge awkwardly.

They’re not complicated to use, either. You pack as normal, zip the main compartment, then use the second zip to compress everything down. It’s simple and intuitive.

That said, compression cubes aren’t magic. They won’t fix overpacking entirely, and they work best when you fold or roll clothes neatly before zipping them down. But they do create structure, and structure is often what makes packing feel overwhelming in the first place.

Final Thoughts

What surprised me most is that the biggest benefit wasn’t just space-saving – it was peace of mind. Knowing exactly where everything is, and not having to constantly reorganise your suitcase, makes travel feel smoother from start to finish.

If you travel regularly – whether for weekend breaks, long-haul trips or business – having a reliable packing system genuinely helps. After testing the Cube Packer compression cubes on real trips rather than in a staged packing scenario, they’ve earned a permanent place in my luggage.

I came home organised, noticeably less stressed, and without once needing to wrestle my suitcase closed. Packing felt simpler, unpacking was easier, and the whole trip ran more smoothly because of it. For something so simple, that’s a big win – and it’s why these cubes have officially earned a permanent place in my suitcase.
