We all have some pretty strong goals that we go through life holding onto, but there are few stronger than the goal that most of us have to one day buy our very own house. And why wouldn’t you want that? After all, if you’re a homeowner you’ve got a place of your very own to do whatever you want with and that you have complete control over. And yet, it can often be incredibly difficult to reach that point, to the point where it actually feels impossible. But one thing that a lot of people fail to ask themselves is whether or not buying a house is actually the right choice. With that in mind, here are just a few reasons why you might be better off renting, at least for the time being.
Less responsibility
One of the most tempting things about owning a house is that you get to have complete ownership and dominion over it. You don’t have to check in with anyone before changing anything and no one’s going to show up to inspect the place. However, the flipside of that, that far too many people ignore, is the fact that you also have to deal with anything that goes wrong. If you’re renting, you get to simply let your landlord know that the washing machine is broken or that the roof has a leak and they will deal with it for you, as well as paying for it.
More freedom
Buying a house is a long and difficult process and not something that most people want to go through too often. And you also have to think about the fact that you also have to go through the process of selling your home as well if you want to move. Because of that, a lot of people end up staying in one place for a very long time even if they don’t really want to simply because the choice is between doing that and having to go through the long, stressful, and expensive process of buying a new home. However, if you’re renting you can just type “letting agents near me” into google and you’ll be able to find a whole host of new places. Then, it’s just a matter of finishing out the period of your lease which can be as little as just a few months. And if you want to find somewhere else in six months time, it’s not going to be that much trouble to do it.
Of course, none of this is meant to say that buying a house is never a good idea or that you shouldn’t even consider it. But rather, if you find yourself in a position where buying a home simply isn’t possible then at least you have the option of looking at it in a more positive light. The truth is that you may well reach a point where buying a house is the right choice for you and your family, but if you’re not at that point in your life yet then there’s nothing wrong with that.
