This tasty Chinese chicken curry recipe can be made within 25 minutes and tastes just like your local takeaway.

The chicken in this recipe is really tender. We make ours from frozen chicken breasts but of course fresh meat works well too.

What we like the most is that you can make this recipe as spicy or as mild as your family like. We love to serve ours with brown rice and homemade naan bread.

What to have with Chicken Curry Chinese Style

We love to have naan bread with all our curry’s. It’s a great way to fill up the kids who normally just pick at this meal.

Our naan recipe is cheap and quick to make. You don’t need anything special and if you prefer you can make it in advance.

You also add any spices or garlic to it if you prefer. We make some simple garlic butter for ours but they are lovely plain as well.

Yeast Free Naan Recipe

Six naan breads on a white plate

250g plain flour
2 tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
120ml milk (we use soya milk)

Mix all the ingredients together in one bowl. It will seem like a sticky mess so you may need to keep adding a small bit of flour in the bowl in till it all comes together.

This is the time to add any extra tastes like dried chillis or extra garlic.

Leave to rise for 10 – 20 minutes.

You should be able to make around six balls with this recipe.

Once you are ready, sprinkle some flour on the surface and roll out the six balls into flat pancakes. Don’t worry about the shape too much.

Heat a frying pan and lightly wipe around some oil.

Place the first flat naan in and watch it start to rise. Each site normally takes a few minutes. We like ours to have some brown patches but cook yours however you like them.

Serve them straight away or warm them under the grill.

Chicken Curry Chinese Style

The ingredients for our chicken curry Chinese style recipe are:

2 chicken breasts 65p

2 onions 16p

Small piece of ginger 15p

2 garlic cloves 6p

400ml chicken stock 3p

2 tbsp low cal spray 10p

3 tbsp plain flour 10p

1 tsp sugar 5p

180g Rice 24p

Total: £1.54 (All prices from Aldi and correct at time of publishing)

You can easily use a lot of your cupboard essentials for this recipe. Items like the chicken stock and vegetable oil you probably already have.

We used brown rice with ours but you could easily use white rice or noodles if you prefer.

If you decide to use frozen chicken breasts like we did then start by defrosting them. You could put them in the fridge the night before to make sure they have fully defrosted.

Once you’ve chopped them into squares, slice the onion, ginger and garlic. Chop or grate it as small as possible.

Prepare the stock by filling a jug with 400ml of hot water. Mix in the plain flour and the spice mixture, whichever one you are using.

Whisk it so it’s as smooth as possible. You don’t want any lumps at all. This could take a few minutes and if you need to add a little extra flour then do so.

Leave the sauce to one side for a few minutes.

Heat the oil in the pan over a medium heat and start to fry the chicken int ill it’s lightly coloured.

Add in the ginger and garlic pieces then add the onion. Fry in till the onion are clear.

Stir fry it all together then add your liquid mixture. Reduce the heat to a shimmer.

This is when you can add any of your extra or favorite vegetables like peas or peppers. Add the sugar in and keep simmering away for around 10 – 15 minutes. Stir it if needed.

You can also add water if you feel that the sauce is getting too thick.

This is when you would cook your rice if using as it normally takes about 15 minutes to cook. If you are using noodles then wait right up in till you are ready to serve as they only take a few minutes to cook through.
